Today after I quickly prepared breakfast for my husband and me, I sat down and within 5 minutes I had eaten breakfast and was already cleaning off the table. Meanwhile, my sweet husband was barely into his meal. I remarked, “Look at me. I have already eaten and you have barely begun.” He replied, “That is because I enjoy each bite.”
I was immediately reminded of the fact that it seems impossible at times for me to slow down and as they say, “smell the coffee.” I am always in such a hurry. Maybe it began when I had three children and worked full time. My life was a buzz from morning til evening. I have never learned how to just sit down and enjoy a meal. It is all part of my learning how to be grateful every moment of every day and enjoy the now. I have never been able to enjoy the NOW. I am always on to the next thing and that has been the story of my life. I am wanting to change that by the grace of God!
So as I renew my vows with Christ, I want to renew my vow to be thankful for every moment even when I am making breakfast, changing diapers, working full time, and cleaning up everyone’s messes. I can always be grateful as I live life in the busiest of times during the day. It doesn’t always feel good and sometimes I tire of doing the mundane things required of me as a mom and wife. Sometimes I just want to throw in the towel and just take a break. Sometimes, I just want to go to the beach and listen to the waves or climb a mountain in Colorado or just sit and enjoy the moment. Seems impossible sometimes especially if you are a young mom with children at your feet every moment of the day. Chin up! God always enjoys the heart and sees your longing to have those moments with Him uninterrupted. So, in the meantime, try to eat slowly if possible, enjoy the noise and thank God that this moment will be the only moment of its kind ever.
I am on a quest to write 1000 things for which I am thankful. Each morning I write as many thank you’s as I can think of in the MOMENT! I am now up to 120 items. It is making me more aware of the goodness of God every day even in my busy and sometimes mundane life. WILL YOU JOIN ME? Just put a notebook by your kitchen sink and every time you think of something for which you are grateful, write it down. I am going to leave my notebook where I can see it and as soon as something comes to mind, run and write it down. “What if I write something more than once?” you may ask. Go for it? It just means that God may be highlighting something. Have fun, enjoy God and His MOMENT NOW!
